This session covers the problems encountered and available solutions when trying to scale data persistence systems to global scale. Data storage is a fundamental building block of computing systems, and the architectural computing styles collectively known as “cloud computing” bring new challenges in data persistence to developers and IT managers alike. These challenges are being met by a diverse number of solutions – ranging from familiar, managed RDBMS services to new kinds of storage engines more akin to document or object stores – that is growing every day. As these data storage systems need to scale to “cloud scale” computing, current technology is getting pushed to the limits of technology and physics.
